Côtes-d'Armor has an indented coastline where tides sculpt strikingly beautiful pink granite landscapes. The 8 to 10 metre tidal range in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc makes it one of the largest in Brittany. The Bréhat archipelago, the Pink Granite Coast at Perros-Guirec, and the cliffs of Cap Fréhel all offer spots where tides dramatically reshape the landscape every 6 hours.
Shore fishing is a centuries-old tradition here: spring tides expose exceptional shellfish grounds. Tidal currents between the islets and through channels can be very strong, particularly in the Jument passage near Bréhat. Coastal navigation demands careful checking of tide times and current data.
