Tide Times in Ille-et-Vilaine

Ille-et-Vilaine is home to the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, where the largest tides in continental Europe occur. Tidal ranges can reach 14 metres during equinoctial spring tides, a natural phenomenon of exceptional power. At Saint-Malo, the corsair city, the average tidal range of 11.3m makes every tide a spectacular sight from the ramparts.

From Cancale, capital of the flat oyster, to the Pointe du Grouin, the coast lives to the rhythm of the tides. Shore fishing is an institution here: spring tides attract thousands of fishers onto the immense tidal flats of the bay. Navigation around the Chausey Islands and within the bay demands rigorous nautical expertise due to powerful currents and spectacular depth changes.
