Tide Times in Landes

Landes offers 106 km of straight beach, the longest sandy beach in Europe. The moderate 2 to 3 metre tidal range is offset by the power of the Atlantic Ocean: constant swell, sometimes towering waves, and treacherous rip currents (baïnes). Hossegor is recognised as one of Europe's finest surf spots, and wave conditions vary considerably with the tide.

The Capbreton canyon, an abyssal submarine canyon just 250 metres from shore, is unique in Europe and amplifies the swell. Experienced surfers know that at mid incoming tide, the sandbanks create the best barrel waves. Beach casting and surf fishing are practised at low tide when the baïnes become natural pools teeming with fish.
